Electrons Discovered!
In 1897, J.J.Thomson discovered the negatively charged electron in the cathode ray tube. He concluded the electron was a piece of all matter and found the charge to mass ratio for the electron.
e/m= -1.76x10^8 coulombs/g
He also studied positive rays in the cathode ray tube and found the charge to mass ration relied on filling gas into the tube. This particle was later found to be a "proton"

The "Plum Pudding" Model of the atom was proposed by Thomson after his discovery of the electron. The "pudding" part of the atom is composed of the positive portion and the "raisins" are the small electron dispersed throught the positive mass to maintain a neutral charge.
